Welcome to Rate It Green!

To list your retail environment/stire or distribution service in the Rate It Green database, first create a Company Account by registering and creating a Company Profile. Next, use the "Submit a new service" feature and select "Green Building Retailer" or one of the specialty retailer categories provided.  There are several reasons we have separate records for companies and the products and services they offer.  First, this allows organizations to enter multiple products and services while only entering company information once.  Our ratings/reviews also attach to these products and services, which means they have to be independent of the company records.  This can be confusing, as some companies may wonder why they need to enter a product or service if they belive their main industry type should ideally classify them for browsing as an organization (Even an architecture firm has to enter architecture as a service, for example).  Note that most visitors will browse by the products and services themselves, so don't foget to take this second step!

Retailers and Distributors are a very important part of the Rate It Green community and green building industry.   When we first started to build Rate it Green, we focused on helping to connect people and encouraging information sharing about green building products and services. We still have the same focus, but we quickly realized that it is not always obvious where to purchase these products and services once someone has figured out more what they might like to buy.  So we are thrilled to work with Retailers and Distributors and look forward to learning about the best ways for us to work together.

As you can see from the “Where to buy” link on our home page, we wanted to provide a quick link for many folks out there who are ready to learn more and purchase green building materials and services.    This link opens a list of green retailers organized by state (starting with green building brisk & mortar generalists – we will add distributors and online retailers in time as our research progresses and our budget allows). The green retailers list is not currently connected to the database. If you do not see your company on this list, please contact us, and we can add your company.

In the future, we plan a unique registration process and display profiles for your businesses similar to the current product and service profiles. These profiles will allow you to communicate whether you are a web retailer or you have one or more brick & mortar locations, where you are located, as well as your service/distribution area.   You will also be able to specify what type of clients you focus on, so that we can help the right people find you. Our team also hopes to be able to provide a means for you to share what brands and lines of products you carry.

We hope that we at Rate It Green can provide you with new information and valuable feedback that will help your business as well as the entire green community continue expanding for years to come. While we may charge for additional optional services, inclusion in the Rate It Green database is free of charge so that we can provide the most accurate and comprehensive information to our Individual Community Members. Joining Rate It Green as an Individual Community Member is also free of charge.

This page will continue to develop as we add retailer and distribution services. Until then, please use the Service Provider home page as a base.    And we will always welcome your feedback as to what features and services will best help you grow your businesses and this industry.
